New Policies to Check Out Library Books
We have some new policies regarding the checking out of library books. Everyone (even those who have previously checked books out) who wishes to check out library books will need to come to the office and fill out a form. We will use a computer in the office to check out your books, and give you a receipt. We want to stop our books from "walking away." No books will be allowed to be checked out the last 3 weeks of each semester, nor during semester breaks. There is now a limit of 2 books checked out at a time. If you have a library book checked out, please bring it back as soon as possible! Thank you.
Wireless Internet Access Now Available on Your Laptop
Did you know that you can now use your laptop to access the internet from the Mesa Institute building? Just see the secretaries for further information.

Better yet, you can still attend after you graduate and work towards another level of recognition! Graduation ceremonies are held once a year, in the Spring (April-May). FAQ--How can I become a professional seminary or institute teacher?
Seminaries and Institutes of Religion constantly look for good people who have a passion for teaching, a love for the scriptures and who can relate to the youth of the Church. The Preservice program consists of two institute classes REL 370 and REL 471 and a year of student teaching. Please contact Bro. Moon for more information at 480-731-4997.
FAQ--Is there a fee for institute?
No. Beginning the fall semester of 2004, the Church changed the funding for institutes. There is no longer a fee for institute classes, with one exception. If you are a non-student older than 30, the Continuing Education Fee must be paid. That fee is $20.00 per class.
FAQ--How do I transfer my institute credits to BYU?
To transfer institute credits to BYU, contact one of the institute secretaries and ask them. They will verify that you have earned transferable credit (only letter grades are transferable: A, B, C, or D, NOT a P). They will then send your transcript to BYU.
FAQ--What does a person need to do to be an institute graduate?
Three certificates are awarded each spring. Come to the office and sign a graduation application! See the attached document to find out the specifics. ( Download )
FAQ--I want to register but do I have to be single to have institute classes?
If you are a student at MCC, married or single, you may register for institute classes. If you are over 30, but a student at any post-secondary institution of higher learning, you may enroll for institute classes.
FAQ--Is it too late to register for institute?
It is NEVER to late to attend institute. If you would like to receive credit for other Church colleges (BYU) or receive credit for institute graduation, you do need to register during the first 3 weeks of the new semester.
FAQ--I homeschool my children and my 14-year-old is also taking classes at MCC. Can he/she attend an institute class?
Institute classes are targeted for those individuals 18-30 years old, and we encourage homeschooled students to enroll in and attend their local seminary classes. For any exceptions, you and your student will need to visit with the Institute Director. Please call 480-964-2652 for an appointment.
FAQ--I am single and moving to the Mesa/Chandler area. How do I determine which singles ward I can attend?
Single adults ages 18-30, living at home should attend their family ward, or a Young Single Adult (YSA) Ward sponsored by their family stake. Single adults living away from home may attend a YSA/college ward if they live within the boundaries of that YSA/college stake. Most stakes in the East Valley sponsor YSA wards. For more information, please call the Mesa Institute of Religion at 480-964-2652. We can fax, email, or mail to you this information. You may also go to maps.lds.org and input your address. Results will show up on the left side of the screen. Scroll down to find out your assigned congregation.
FAQ--Do you have a housing board?
There is a bulletin board in the Mesa Institute for housing, items for sale, and employment. We keep the housing info on Excel spreadsheets and they are available to email to you at any time. All you need to do is email us at mesaaz@ldsces.org and request it. We update the info almost daily. We will be happy to mail, email, or fax you a copy of what's available. We do not keep the employment information or "For Sale" items on the computer. If you have a housing posting, you are welcome to email it to us at mesaaz@ldsces.org. We will post it for 30 days for you, and longer (or shorter), upon request. Be aware that we have space limitations, so keep your housing postings to a minimum of words. We format your postings to fit part of a 3 by 5 card. We do not have room for 8 1/2 by 11 inch postings.
FAQ--Can I post my business card for my photography/decorating/organizing, etc. business?
We find that many people have posted business cards to promote their private businesses. We also receive requests to post announcements for theatre/dance/music productions, or to raise money for a good cause. Church policy prohibits us from posting such advertisements. We are a church and as such, must protect that status. We are only allowed to publicize for activities that are sponsored by another institute or a church unit, and the flyer and/or poster must state the name of the sponsoring unit. We remove and discard any postings that are not in line with these policies.
FAQ--If I am enrolled in one institute class, can I change to another class and still receive credit for the class?
Yes, as long as it is the same subject and you maintain 75% attendance overall, you may receive credit. Please speak to both teachers to make sure that your attendance record gets transferred to the new class.
FAQ--I am married and over 30 but would like to take a class. Is there somewhere I can go?
Many stakes in the East Valley offer Adult Religion classes. As a service to the community, the Mesa Institute maintains a list of these classes. You may call us at 480-964-2652 or email us at mesaaz@ldsces.org to request a copy and we will mail, email, or fax you a copy.
FAQ--If I am married and I attend institute classes, do I still get to go to institute activities like the dances and other things?
You and your spouse are invited to come to all the activities together. Attendance at any social get-together without your spouse would not be appropriate.
FAQ--Do you have to be a student at the university or the community college in order to attend institute classes?
No. Institute is for all young adults 18 years to 30 years old! It's never too late to attend an institute class during the semester. Every young person is encouraged to attend institute.
FAQ--Do you have a list of available LDS female housing for rent?
To our knowledge, there are no large housing units that are the same as at BYU, with enforced BYU standards. It is up to the individual landlord and roommates. However, in an effort to help out the LDS community, we compile housing spreadsheets from the cards posted on our housing board. We have three categories of housing lists: Male, Female, and For Sale or Rent, which are empty units looking for families, couples or a group of same-gender friends. You can request a housing list by calling us at 480-964-2652, or by emailing us at mesaaz@ldsces.org. The lists are updated almost daily.
FAQ--I want to attend MCC institute. However, all the classes I need for my degree are late in the evening. I need an institute class that starts anywhere from 3-5 pm and gets out around 5-7 pm. Is there anything you can do?
We are sorry for the inconvenience. We schedule our classes at the times that are convenient for most of our students. We haven't had very much demand for classes at that time, thus they are not offered. If the demand warrants it, we will schedule classes then. A suggestion would be to contact the institute director personally to make your desires known.
